Questions families ask
Does it cost anything?
No. There is no tuition. The program is grant- and donor-funded, and seed funds for each student's business come from the program.
How often does it meet?
Two sessions a month, on evenings or Saturdays, from September to June. There are also local business site visits and a public Market & Showcase Night. Exact days and times: [meeting schedule]
Where does it meet?
In the Twisp / Winthrop area. The final site will be confirmed: [session location]
What kinds of businesses can students start?
Almost any legal, age-appropriate small business: crafts and retail, tutoring, lawn and snow care, pet care, outdoor guiding, design, video, apps, social media, trades and repair, art and photography, agriculture or food. Food is just one option.
Does my teen need a business idea already?
A starting idea helps, and the application asks what they want to build, but the early sessions help students choose one.
Can services and online businesses take part in the showcase?
Yes. Service and digital businesses can show their portfolio, take bookings or sign up clients at the Market & Showcase Night.
Who keeps the money from sales?
At the Market & Showcase Night, students may keep the net proceeds from their own sales after agreed input costs. Unused seed funds go back to the Academy.
Is transportation provided?
Parents usually provide transportation. Adults never transport a minor alone, and any group ride follows a documented two-adult plan.
What does joining the waitlist do?
It reserves your interest and makes sure you hear when applications open. It is not a final application or a guarantee of a spot.
